If this is the case then it will have adverse effects on the actual sales of Genuine copies of SM as many will just play with cracked servers with most game limitations altered of which in many cases will render the original servers inferior and less appealing
As it seems.... the more you take away form the player..... the more you restrict a game.... the more challenging it becomes to the Hackers and Crackers = game fail/flop
I for one do not want this to happen but if your say look what i have, but im not gonna show you! the more people will want to see = then more willing they are to see it and experience it threw less legitimate means

Yes its nice to have Multiplay but in my opinion a game isn't a game without a solo game
+1  If SM is only online, I will NOT buy it.
It wasn't exactly what i was saying, however somewhat true
What i was saying is i do buy games for their solo mode as much as i buy them for their muliplayer mode
Again going back to what i said prior to this quote.... if it is to be a multiplayer only then i WILL look for less legitimate means in order to play & and experience it and should it not be in my opinion worth the buy then i wont support Nadeo buy making a legitimate purchase

Pff.. you guys still aren't seeing the big picture eh?

Since when do any regular game servers do that?

Look, I can see that some people are attached to their solo mode, but if you buy multiplayer heavy games like Call of Duty or Battlefield specifically for the solo player, then you ought to reevaluate your priorities. If you bought according to this method today, you would miss out on some quality games including Counter Strike, Enemy Territory, and Team Fortress (I know this is free now). IF you want solo, go play HalfLife and Portal.

Second thought: Shootmania does not need to be marketed specifically at Trackmania players. While I am sure there are the fair share of shooter fans in the community, the ignorance about shooters can be found in the OP. If you want to play a shooter with racing, you ought to go play Warsow race mode or Quake 3 Defrag or something.

All F2P games have accounts with money in their servers (even if secured with cascade for local).
So all. The future is F2P.

Hackers don't have business into attack TM or SM servers.
Servers don't run a real money or bank account so this will never happen. :roflol:
I was not thinking of those kind of hackers, have you never played an FPS? this is hacking:

actually that's not hacking.

In terms of doing illegal stuff with game clients, here's a small list:
- cracking: removing software protection by decoding data, removing protection and re-encoding
- scripting/coding: writing your own code to run side by side with other software
- phreaking: altering software by decoding data, insert own code and re-encoding

Not game client related:
- hacking: breaking through firewalls and open ports through live communication
Hacking has been upgraded in the crime type. it's now stamped as cyber-terrorism and due to the "war on terrorism" the penalty is severe.

in "normal person language" :
hacking is done with an axe to get through a (fire) wall..
you need to crack something open to get to know what's inside (the game exe/dll files)

ok but "hacker" is what they are called in reference to FPS's. it may not be the "correct" word but i could mention the widespread wrong usage of GPS in TM...

in reference to fps those are called cheaters. no clue what fps you played, but i never heard about people who installed a script being called hackers.

gps in trackmania is Ghost Playback System... which does indeed have the same letters as global positioning system.

Maybe im missing something here but what i was getting at was not in-game cheating at all though that would come
What i was getting at was that if it was online only that someone on the Scene would obtain the game executable and hack away at its code to enable Private Server Play (totally independent from Nadeo servers)
Thus there would be no point in buying the game as there will be so called Pirate versions that people could use...
Still dont understand?
OK.... World Of Warcraft..... Online Only.... MMORPG.... subscription only.... though a little Google searching will turn up 10's of thousands of Private Non Blizzard running servers = Blizzard get no Income from Game sale & subscription as their idea was designed to do..... even if you look hard enough you can find a Moded version that requires no internet and solo gaming
My point being that the restrictions will only impose a bigger challenge to the pirateers/hackers to make the game freely available to the masses thus reducing potential sales to Nadeo
