The main audience of SM, at least at first, will be TM players.
Hence SM MUST perserve that special TM feel, otherwise it will be a total flop.
I suggest the following:
-The player has to advance from start to finish, along a "track", with checkpoints (much like TM).
-On the way,the player must overcome (=shoot) bots, which of course can also shoot the player and kill him.
-The bots path is always the same.
-So, designing a map in SM will mean designing the "track" AND designing the location and path of the bots.
-Time from start to finish is the only measure (much like TM).
-In multiplayer mode, No collision detection among players (again, just like TM).
-also in multiplayer, a player can see the other players (to see his position on the "track" relative to the competition in real time), But every player sees only "his" bots (because if someone else shot a bot which you didnt, then you still have to shoot it, and it is still shooting at you).
Thats it, what do you think?

Re: The solution for SM
If so, then how exactly is SM to compete against BF, COD, not to mention all the freeware multiplayer shooters out there?jonthekiller wrote:SM will not have bots, it's a multiplayer game without a solo

Re: The solution for SM
SM will not be like Cod of BF and players will not buy Cod or BF for the solo but for the multiplayer and they don't have bots in multiplayer.alonsega wrote:If so, then how exactly is SM to compete against BF, COD, not to mention all the freeware multiplayer shooters out there?jonthekiller wrote:SM will not have bots, it's a multiplayer game without a solo
SM is make for competitions like CS but not the same game.
Re: The solution for SM
Well I for one bought TM2 MAINLY for the solo mode, and im also real exited about the planned Maniaplanet 2.0 additions regarding solo play (=the ability to create custom modes), and I can only imagine im not the only one.jonthekiller wrote:SM will not be like Cod of BF and players will not buy Cod or BF for the solo but for the multiplayer and they don't have bots in multiplayer.alonsega wrote:If so, then how exactly is SM to compete against BF, COD, not to mention all the freeware multiplayer shooters out there?jonthekiller wrote:SM will not have bots, it's a multiplayer game without a solo

I can only urge you again to take appealing to TM players into consideration, cause after all, its our purchases of TM that finance the SM project

Re: The solution for SM
Nadeo will not change this, they have announced, it's only a multiplayer game.
Re: The solution for SM
There will be no solo mode on Storm (at least for the moment ^^).

Re: The solution for SM
Im a great fan of Tm since the first one. I loved always the solo mode. When I've heard about SM and QM I've imagined games with the solo mode too. I've imagined custom levels to play alone like other fps and not only dm arena games. At this point I should imagine that Qm too is only a sort of mini MMORPG without challenges and quest in solo mode. Too bad for me.
Re: The solution for SM
I think shootmania is about having (competitive) fun with others on maps you (and they) have made. Furthermore, there will be different gamemodes and achievements. By the way, there are a LOT of other fps without a solo campaign, and even those fps are played by lots of people. Thus I don't see why everyone makes a problem about not having a solo campaign in SM
Fly into the distance..
Re: The solution for SM
It will be difficult without the solo mode. Mainly because we're unable to test the maps created and validated by us. For we play, we must be friends with an administrator of a server. And to attract people to a server created by us is complicated. Not to mention that I live in a country where we pay dearly for an internet that is garbage. It was five days without being able to connect.

Dropped connections are common here.
