It obviously isn't. Official mode is meant to be the single player equivalent for rounds (online).
xanatos.chimera wrote:I didn't say remove the timer and make every run count. I said have it so that you can submit one completed run every five minutes but if you crash and restart the run, the data isn't transmitted to the server and you don't have to wait for the next Official Attempt. Once you complete an Official run you can't submit another one for a given time period.
So, if you see you're not going to beat your personal best, you can restart right before the finish line and try again?

This might be a good reason why I only play time attack.

Well, you're not the only one playing TM.
I'm sure Nadeo know how many people play on rounds / time attack servers... And I'm sure they wouldn't have introduced the timer system if people only enjoyed time attack.
Btw, another suggestion:
If you want to show off to everybody about your best run on a track, you could simply upload a video of your run on youtube (or any other video hosting site). This would reduce the nadeo server load even more, which is exactly what you want.

The differentiation between Training and Official in TM is really just this: in Training, you race against the local records and your own personal best times, while in Official, you've connected to the net, race against the times of other players and move up the single player ladder. I don't see a problem with allowing the selection of a run to be submitted as official. It just removes a set of clicks and a step from the process. In the current incarnation you have to click Official then race. While, in metoxys' suggestion you make a run then opt to submit it as an official time. Just have the requirement that a network connection be present for any run you intend to submit as Official and limit the number of Official runs that can be submitted per hour to 12 or something.

why does nobody recognize of you that there will be a planets influence? seriously its so plain stupid to say that the timer is the spirit of offical times or that you are just an idiot if you crash in an offical race
seriously this idea is so -.- -> supports nolifers, makes normal drivers angry,.....

Funnily, there have been quite a lot 'normal drivers' stating that they really enjoy the 'new' official mode while they didn't play the 'old' one in TMUF.

I just did a video for the community video project and I narrated this video (microphone)
You will see the probably most accurate average reactions during an official run there (driving on A08 lol)

I admit I'm not 100% up to speed on how the TM2 record keeping servers work, but even if it meant an increased budget for server maintenance, I suspect it would be better to just have each player's best times matched up against the official times rankings. Having tossed it about in my mind a bit, I'm pretty much sold on the idea that the timer exists only to reduce nadeo/ubi server loads. I mean.. why else would they implement such a player unfriendly system? If I am actually onto something here, I hope Nadeo/Ubisoft will consider again changing how this all works.
Let us spend our planets on Official times imo, as it stands my planets bank is pretty much worthless, what can I use it on except being a samaritan and donating to a server? I dont even know what the servers use the planets for either, so whats the use?

planets are useless now and there will be a planets influence, because everybody just donate it to the servers. Servers need planets, because you need planets to make higher rank server ( for example 0-60 costs 10k planets, 20-70 20k, 40-80 40k, 60-90 80k...)

I still think that paying official times with planets AND a time limiter of 2 minutes would be best.
Or limit the time to 5 minutes in the first run and gradually bring the time down to 2mins. Like you start with a 5min limit but after playing 40mins you can get your limit down to 2 minutes (per track)
Just changing the time limit would probably be the easiest way for everyone.
