Its a shame that they don't write in the forums much... funny thing is, they will read this, but not reply
This is true, but Nadeo's even said that the purpose they joined with Ubi basically was to provide them with a "more global reach", e.g. in marketing. And, well, we've seen how well -that's- gone, haven't we? :? AFAIK, there's actually -less- of a US presence this time around...<_<

I see. I wasn't around in that time when Ubi and Nadeo joined- could you link me to the thread with the official reasons why Nadeo made this decision? Maybe what they are waiting for is the -big- hit, that being SM. When that happens they will have to really push it and actually advertise which I expect Nadeo would expect Ubi to help... no idea how much they will help, apart from SM being listed on the Ubisoft site as their game.

It is obvious and strategic to use your energy to push when the leverage you do is bigger with a given input of power.

Having Canyon, MP 2.0 and Storm available will be stronger. So, we are somehow waiting for the right timing while the system is also getting stronger http://forum.maniaplanet.com/viewforum.php?f=39

But until then, starting from next month, you shall see constant activity around bringing people to discover new information or play.

The downside is that there is a longer gap between the initial release of Canyon and this period of dynamism, but that's really a decision I had to take in order to maximise our strength and I am quite confident that it was the right choice.

Something that bugs me is that nearly everyone in this Trackmania 2 forum wants a more successful Trackmania 2 and yet I would think that both SM and QM, both of which I'm sure have nothing really to do with Trackmania itself, will surely draw players away from TM2. It feels like TM is being used as a stepping stone to kick off other genres, with MP acting like some sort of games client similar to Steam. If the resources are spread too thinly how can TM2 be fully supported and the faults and failures sorted out? Are Nadeo/Ubi just going to move on and leave the community?
From what I can gather, and please correct me if I'm wrong, each environment for each 'game' (TM,SM & QM) can be bought and played completely separately from any of the others and that apart from being able to use MP they have nothing else in common ...... Or can they interact with each other?

Yes, the game is just starting .... but please finish the game before moving onto something else.

Extremely good points you raise here. I would like the answers too, although I doubt we will get all the answers.

Let's let Nadeo do what they do best: Develop games.

Meanwhile we can do what we do best: Be active in the community. Organize events, take part in events, build tracks, make mods, skins, 3d models, manialinks, etc.

Let history be the judge of Nadeo and whether Hylis made the right decisions going forward.

Sure, we'd like everything fixed yesterday, but that didn't happen. Let's see what the future holds! :pop:

This is an extremely good point since I believe it is exactly what makes us think different of the strategy.

I am pretty sure that ShootMania will bring much more players for TrackMania. A racing game average time of play is normally shorter than a FPS for many reasons. With ShootMania, there will be a lot of regular players around that will surely enjoy to play TrackMania on a regular basis, but on smaller amount of playtime. It will promote a lot TrackMania as well since people that are interested into FPS will be closer to the information of TrackMania while they are looking at ShootMania and the various quality: 2.0, fun, eSport, machinima, simple etc.

Look at the most played games on Steam, for exemple, and you shall observe that the number of people racing versus shooting is quite rare. So, even if we did strong innovation for TrackMania, it was difficult to talk about them to players that are more looking toward FPS.

I have showed ShootMania to many people now, and they are often surprised of all the power behind the racing game, and the unbelievable creative community. This surprise may be something that will seize many gamers and they will more easily move to TrackMania once they are aware of this.

It is like a console, it is more difficult with only one big title, especially if it is not in the top popular gendra. We need more diversity of gameplay in order to enable a bigger, stronger and longer term community to exist.

Meanwhile, Maniaplanet 2.0 will also bring interesting stuff for TrackMania.

So, I think it is going to be party time

Hi,

can you say something about MP 2.0 ? You´re talking how great it will be but I can´t imagine what MP 2.0 will be. Is it something like "we improve Maniahome, Maniapub, MWS, Maniascript and add some new feature like Maniapress" or more like "It´s the new way to communicate between the upcoming nadeo games SM and Q" or something completely different ?

best regards, Jojo

Why do you think that SM means more TM players?

Say it is lie to the people.

this is so wrong imho. the ones who are already playing Canyon and will buy SM... well, they _already_ bought it, so they don't make TM any more popular. the ones who will buy SM... most of them (I think even about 90% maybe) will buy _only_ SM, because they just like shooters. the rest (10%) _maybe_ will buy Canyon, but I'm anyway really doubt of it.

btw, just understood why the statement "Canyon is being sold very well, it already has as many players as TMUF does, and it's just in 4 months" isn't really true. during 3 years lasted from TMUF release, computers and computer games market growed up a lot. so _relatively_ Canyon is as popular now as TMUF was back in 2008. and since you see (don't deny) that Canyon is losing popularity quite fast... it's definitely not as succesful as TMUF is. and new envis/features/games won't really give any popularity to it.

^my opinion^
