for TrackMania: similar as before
for ShootMania: more CPU power and memory usage than before since simulation is done on server

Why are you supposing that it would be different than for the current TM dedicated ?

You speak about home hosted dedicated here...
"Real" dedicated, with high bandwidth, are most time on rent servers, so controlled remotely, and so more often on linux than on windows.

Yup, slig hit the nail on the head there, it would be on linux and windows i should think, i don't see a reason to change this and neither will the dev. team i would think.

But,

Talking on the Windows front .... What about a little inbuilt GUI into the exe? Something akin to a local run Servermania, simple options and some drag and drop support for the maps list for explorer? Just thinking whilst on subject it might be something to suggest that's reasonable and make it easy for those to run a quick server at home?

Would be pretty cool to have people fire up a server on windows in an easily editable manner (no third party bumpf) i think ...allthough there is allways the issue of people running a server on any old slow home connection, bu i suppose that's still the case even with the more complex current methods.

Look forward to seeing what the new wave of software can do :D

In the old tmn dedicated servers, there was a gui given.

With the new dedicated basic.php can be used as a gui.

Don't know if this is anything for this thread, but what a bout the possibility to use a
get function to get information about stunts done by the user?

If this possible (don't know if this works today) you can create campaigns where you need to do a specific stunt to get next (checked with maniascript).

Sounds pretty sweet, would be also an awesome solo game to teach progressively the tricks in sequence :D

Thats a really nice suggestion tcq, maybe make it a thread in it's own right, to leave this thread for what it's designed for :)
