IPL6 - Map list and Discussion

Post by cl0ck »

I feel more community involvement is needed in the selection process. The recent closed poll is a great first step, but as a whole there needs to be more transparency regarding the discussions on the map selection then there currently is. Respecting the authority the IPL staff has to make the final decision on the map pool for IPL6, the players are the ones that have to play them. Without the support of the players the ShootMania portion of IPL wouldn't even be possible.

There should be clearer guidelines on what IPL is looking for in a map list rather than "what we like". Map makers need to have direction on what to change in their maps. As it stands right now I don't think IPL has opened any dialog with the map makers themselves regarding their maps that are being considered with the exception of maybe one or two of them. Up until yesterday IPL didn't even know how to get a hold of the creator that made ProvingGround and The Switch. And id_ has received no feedback from IPL on any of the 4 versions of Rust he has made.

There has been two HUGE community tournaments hosted by SK the past 2 Sundays, packed with 16 teams and great games on a variety of the new maps, yet no feedback was requested by IPL on how those tournaments played out with the different maps.

As for Breach, it feels like it is like a giant free for all with no flow or coordination. The final version of this map is by far the worst. One of the biggest issues with this map was that the creator came out with 10 different versions (give or take a couple) over the course of what felt like a few days, leaving each version no room to be extensively tested. Part of this I blame on the urgency IPL has seemed to place on selecting a map list for IPL6, which is still over 2 months away. There were previous versions of breach that played much better than this final version.

IPL is about to start weekly tournaments that will have an effect on how teams are seeded at IPL6 within the next week on a plethora of new maps. In an effort to allow teams adequate time to practice and prepare the results of this poll and all things regarding the map-list should be, and I'll say it until I am blue in the face, transparent.

The more new maps the better. Everyone just needs to play these new maps more to understand how to play them and adapt to their different play styles. The last thing I want is to have to play the same old maps over and over again for every tournament.

I didn't like breach the first time I played it, but the more you play it the more you understand its flow, the different setups you can use, and the different attack paths. After a week it's already one of my favourite maps. Everyone just needs to give these maps a chance.

I agree with breach being horrendous & it looks and plays like a pub map. very hard to attack on because people play so passive on defense making it an atrocious experience for the spectator.

I was in mumble hearing a certain player complaining about how Rust, provingground & switch didnt have enough new blocks and that the IPL6 map competition was about using new blocks from beta 2. I'm not sure if that's true or not but if it is its ridiculous.

Personally I think that nadeo should have full control over their own maps or a player in the mapping competition can only submit a map when they feel it's finalized and only change it if there is reported bugs/glitches. As it stands right now.. we'll be playing a map non stop then it seems the team of the mapmaker will lose on that map & completely change it to benefit themselves by adding more fences or blocks to benefit their playstyle and it's just been ridiculous.

screw most of these new maps and if you complain about switchv2 being too attack friendly you're an idiot & fence blocks should be removed from the game. so boring for a spectator to see 3 people hiding inside and behind fences for a whole round until pole can be capped.

We haven't seen ANY "new" maps made by European's that are under consideration, why is that? Surely they've made some, no? Is anyone from IPL on regular contact with them? Why is it that limited amount of feedback that has seemed to be heard regarding the new maps by IPL has been American? What do the euro's think about the maps?

My original post is not meant to be an anti-breach rant, nor is the purpose of this forum. If you want to post your opinions on the maps, then post your opinions for all the new maps not just Breach. I made the mistake of only including my opinions of Breach, I have similar opinions on the majority of the new maps, which I'll post a little later.

This purpose of this forum is an attempt to open the lines of communication regarding the map pool between the community and IPL.
