Stay offline when computing shadows

Post by slugish »

With each recent update, I have had to recompute shadows for all of the Shootmania maps that I have on my servers, and all of the maps I have made myself. Because of the amount of time that this takes when using high quality shadows (several hours), I would prefer to use a second computer to do this so that I may continue to play on my primary computer. Unfortunately, I cannot have two computers connected to Maniaplanet simultaneously, and the game refuses to begin computing shadows unless it is connected. If I attempt to compute shadows while the primary computer is connected, I get the typical "you are already connected" prompt. If I choose to stay offline, I then get a "please wait, loading" prompt that does not go away. If I disconnect this second computer from the internet before beginning, I get the "you are not connected" prompt followed by the same "please wait, loading" screen.

I see no reason to connect to Maniaplanet when computing shadows from the command line. Any chance this could be changed?

Same case, I have to use a second account for computing shadows.

The best should be to be able to compute without need to log-in, no ?

Read this great post where you can learn how to calculate shadows for ALL maps and tracks at once. http://forum.maniaplanet.com/viewtopic. ... 66&t=15988

back to topic: slugish, you have understood that there is basically no need to calculate shadows in ultra quality on your server(s), since the lightmaps stored in the files are smaller anyways?

Or did anyone notice that the lightmaps calculated in ultra quality still are significantly better than lightmaps directly calculated with normal quality? I'm not speaking of the cache here, only of the "built-in" lightmaps inside the GBX.
