Building Block Palette

Post by UrinStein »

Hey Guys,

I'm quite frustrated with the Block-Menu of the editor.
Browsing through the folders is annoying and takes so much time. Blocks you have to use in a pair like CastleWalls and SlidingWood are so far from each other it's a mess to build with it.

Hence I propose integrating a kind of "Building Block Palette". I guess most of you should know the Colour Palette from MS Paint where you have a grid i wich you can place the colours you want in any place you want.
So in Maniaplanet-Editor you could make a Palette with the blocks you need and arrange them as you like. No browsing and no pop-ups needed.

You would also need more than one Palette since not all blocks would fit into one, so you should be able to switch between different Palettes you have made.

Here's a picture (beware of not existing MS Paint skills!):

PS: When I'm in the editor I ALWAYS accidentially move my mouse over the Block Folders and some random folder I don't need at all pops up. Every time I have to search for the folder I was in again. It sucks... it sucks so hard.
Also my Screen isn't too big (15") so almost 1/3 of my screen is full of those Buildung blocks I don't need. More than 2 rows just ruin the whole editor for me. -.-

It would be nice and less frustrating if the editor folders only opened by clicking on them again indeed

You can use the key shortcuts (numbers) to select a block without opening the block menu.

Okay let's say I want to build CastleWalls + SlidingWood, wich is a combination you cannot avoid.

2 - 6 - 1 - ^ - ^ - ^ - 5 - 2 - 2

Nine keys is no shortcut for me. xD
Those blocks are still way too far away for me. And in other situations there will be other blocks too far away from each other depending on the map being build and the person building it.

Thus it would be best to let everyone arrange their blocks as needed. In the example I made in the picture the longest way to get to a block you need would be one key on your keyboard (1-5) and one click.
Building speed would be optimised since everyone should know where he/she has put the blocks and also blocks often being used together would be in the same palette and there would be less need for the use of shortcuts.

Also, don't SM and TM² use the same editor? I don't play TM² so I posted it in the SM section, but I guess any plugin for SM could be used for TM² too.
