[B3.1][Stadium] No Anti-Aliasing

Post by th3n0ob »

Hi,
I am not up to date with FXAA but as far as i read its an Nvidia technolgy. I'm not sure if it works for AMD cards (I have a HD 7850) but as far as I can tell, Ingame I have no Anti Aliasing at all. When I'm standing you can see it, but when I drive I cant see anything, especially in walls, the Mesh of the wall/loop parts ist just a big sea of giant pixels. I tried forcing Anti-Aliasing via Catalyst Driver but it didnt do anything (Catalyst 13.1)

Ingame screen:

You can see the edges a bit more far away from the car are really pixelated.

My PC specs
GPU: AMD HD 7850
CPU: AMD Pheonom II X4 965
16GB DDR3

Edit: finally figured out how to disable Blur, made the visability while Driving much better (with enabled the textures looked really weird like lowest settings) but AA is still not working :(

Indeed.
Also I noticed that on "Nice" and "Very Nice" shader quality the only way to antialias graphics is to use FXAA, which is an NVIDIA technology. :?

I just tryed to run public beta of TM2:S on Radeon HD7750 and GeForce 310M. In both cases the game was lacking AA.
Even though i own an NVIDIA based laptop, FXAA doesn't seem to work well on it. I doublechecked everything than installed newest WHQL drivers and then again doublechecked everything. The result remained the same.

On both computers of mine, with AMD and NVIDIA GPUs and latest WHQL drivers antialiasing doesn't work as it should be on maximum graphics settings. And I can't do anything about it because the only option for AA with Nice and Very Nice shaders is FXAA. Which obviously doesn't do it's job very well.

IIMHO in terms of AA, TM2:S made a major downgrade, comparing to TMNF.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also other gfx settings are less flexible (e.g. shadows and lighting) which is hardly can be called an improvement, but this is an off topic here...

I also think that with enabled Anti-Aliassing TMF looks nicer then TM2. So please add the same Anti-Aliasses as it was in TMF.

+1

The lack of AA was already bothering me in Canyon, but it's MUCH worse in Stadium where you have lots of straight lines and repetitive textures.

Really bad game... I hate this new graphic and atmosphere. It is much worse then before... Everything blinking. Anti-aliasing also doesn't work with my nVidia GPU GTX 460. In TMUF everything was smooth. So I think better is crystal clear curves than more realistic lightning. TMUF has got a stylisation which is missing in this new one. The blooms and else things are nice but for main stream players... This is pro-game so everyone will want to switch off these useless effects.
Next point is really bad cameru on num 2.

I don't think that the visual problems are linked to the lack of anti-aliasing (FXAA On vs FXAA Off).
For me, it's more the blinking on some objects (flags, lights...) which is very annoying.

i did ask for "good" anti aliasing in the past that was the answer so i still hope but that gets less and less :(
Hylis wrote:Our work is more focused toward low configuration right now, since players seems to enjoy big maps and many players ^_^ we wished to make ssaa earlier, but there is some difficulties for this atm. I know that combined with fxaa, it makes quite a decent work. Keep your framerate for smooth play atm ^_^

they definitely should work on lower graphics configurations aswell. and i guess allowing players to disable shadows, dynamic lighting, clouds and that mist effect will do the job.

it is really sad for users like me with 120-150 fps on highest settings. I really would like to see some MSAA oder SSAA.

But I understand that everyone should be able to play Trackmania 2 and so they focuse on the "mainstream" computers. I can live with that because the graphics are not bad just the Anti-Aliasing is just a complete mess.
