The camera is at the same place as the old cam2 now, but depth of field is still variable :?
If you want to see it, just use 3 or 4 boosters: you will see the horizon (or the end of the stadium) going away while you accelerate, although the distance between you and the end of the stadium decreases. It is an artefact to give the feel of higher speed.

This is disturbing when driving tech maps: you are supposed to visually predict the distances for drifting (when start, when stop). It isn't easy and requires a lot of experience. But now, we have to include the visual variations of distances ? Experienced players can still play because they trained on TMNF, but i don't think a beginner can reach their level playing stadium2.
For an e-sport oriented game, I don't understand why we should sacrifice gameplay for the eye-candy.

When driving fullspeed maps, your speed is already high, with stadium2 it becomes a bit stupid. I don't have that much reflexes, the map looks so stretched...

It's the same in Canyon, as far as I know. At least I notice the camera getting closer and further away from the car depending on your speed and if you're in a curve. This was actually something I really loved about the game when I first played it. It's much more immersive.

I can certainly understand wanting to have it more static. This changing dof adds another layer of complexity. It's like an fps player playing with mouse accel turned on. It's definitely possible, and even possible to get really good with it, but it adds another layer of complexity to the game.

Please forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't this always the case when driving over boosters? Atleast in TM-Sunrise it was. Wasn't it?

Yeah, it was definitely the same in Island. It feels more pronounced in Canyon though. The best feeling about it is when driving really fast and then taking an extremely tight drift... the camera pulls in really close to the car. I get the feeling like the camera is right there with you, bracing for the turn. It feels great.

I don't know about canyon, I didn't notice it in videos, so do you have a link where is is clearly visible ? It does apply to Shootmania too, but it is only visible when taking jumpers so it doesn't make a big difference. That scares me a bit because that would mean this effect is part of the graphical engine of maniaplanet. Maybe we will never have the option to turn it down
I like your comparison, imagine if BF2 was without mouse accel and then BF3 forces you to use it. The only thing that can justify it: it is more immersive, more intense, maybe more appealing to new players. But for me it is also less precise and, above all, less predictable.

I'd really like to see the option of turning it off, now it just feels i'm going to hyperspace whenever I take a boost

Maybe it is note really the same then, the position of the camera isn't supposed to change depth of field
