[TM2S Release] [Bug] Blocky shadows on platforms

Since the release of stadium I get blocky shadows on platfoms and grass. The grass shadows were already buggy since the beta but grass is not so important but the platforms are a major problem now.

I'm guessing it's a problem with TM2 not working well with ATI cards. Well it was acceptable until now with only a few bad shadows here and there but it has crossed the line of acceptable now. I computed shadows 2 weeks ago in the same tracks and had no problems then.

My card is a Radeon HD6950 with an i5 2500K (2nd gen)

I'm seeing the same problem here. I didn't have any issues with the beta, but after it upgraded to the final release now my shadows are all screwed up on a track I've been working on. I have an Nvidia card though, so seems to affect both ATI & Nvidia. Tried with SLI on and off, makes no difference.

Hopefully there is a fix for this!!

You can see in this video I recorded a few days ago, the shadows were fine until the last patch. Dunno what happened! :(

did you clean the cache and recalculate the shadows with the release version? :?
Although somewhere someone said it should be necessary, perhaps Nadeo did a last minute change to some textures, and then a new lightmap is possibly required.

Yes I've cleared the cache and tried to recalculate shadows. The shadows come out screwed up everytime for all settings.

Delete the file Default.System.Config.Gbx from your documents\ManiaPlanet\Config folder,
as well as the one Gbx that contains Ati or Amd in the name.

And please also send me your actual map so I can try to calculate the shadows, just to see this is not something general now.

Hi TMarc. I had already cleared my cache and deleting those files didn't help either. :? I calculated 10 tracks of which 4 have this problem, the others are fine so it doesn't affect all tracks. I pm'd you a track and hope you can find something. Or else I will reinstall the game and see what that does.

It seems it is really a bug as it also happens for me now.

First i loaded your track, calculated "Very Fast" shadows. Looked "Perfect" (if we can say this of that setting, but no blockies at least)
Then I calculated "High quality" shadows (not Ultra) :arrow: same bug as yours :|

And then after I modified one groud block and undo, the next "Very Fast" shadow calculation still had the bug :evil:
Then I cleaned the cache, loaded your original map again, "Very Fast" shadows -> nice.
Now again "High Quality" shadows, but this time with "lightindex" switched off -> still bug!

Just for a try, I used the Day mood, same result with "High Quality" shadows:

So either it is a bug, or you have too many blocks or lightsources in your map :|

Small tracks don't cause this issue it seems.

A investigation by Nadeo is urgently required, please :oops:

Wow seems like a major bug then. :o Strangely some tracks that are bigger have no problems so I don't know if size matters. Btw after I deleted the Default.SystemConfig.Gbx file all tracks have become white-ish, offline and online, so my game is now screwed lol. I'll do a reinstall today. Cheers for testing TMarc, hope they fix it soon. :thumbsup:

You only need to restore the proper settings in the configuration,
and give some time for the P2P downloads of missing signs, whenever you enter a server that has maps which use them.

I placed it back from my recycle bin and it's fixed now. Should have thought of that before hehe. Wasn't missing any signs btw. Cheers.
