about the difference in brightness

Post by hacktiv »

Hi,

I' played tmnf for a few years, and i now switched to tm2 (stadium). I really love it, no big gameplay changes (wich i think is good), just some improvements IMO. but there is only one thing that is somewhat annoying. maybe someone else already posted this but anyway,

i think the graphics are awesome, but i think the whole ''camera'' system / dynamic range is not good. there's too much difference in brightness. for example, when you approach a tunnel you just cant clearly see wich way to go at first glance. its just too dark. or vica versa, when you're in the tunnel, the ''camera'' ajusts the brightness but then the end of the tunnel becomes way too bright. even after nolifing some tracks i still had a hard time passing those dark parts without crashing. i know it adds some realism when you compare it with a lot of todays camera's, but in this game i think its not very handy.

i asked some other people about this and they also agreed, so i guess its not my monitor.i can ofcourse ajust the contrast and that slightly helps, but i dont think that should be the solution. i also couldnt find an option to shut off shadows or something like that. you can see it as a ''feature'' or as ''more challenging''/realism but it think its just annoying.

more people with this ''problem''?

one thing you can try is to reduce the bloom setting.

Darkness?
I really don't understand how people call that dark. I can see fine...

Of course even when I played a game that was heavily criticized for a needless amount of darkness I found it bright. Which was kind of disappointing...

It might be annoying, but this is the new engine and you will need to live with it, if you want to play TM2 :) Takes some time until mappers adjust top this new challenge when building map. With this I mean to build it in a way that there are no dark/bright spots which ruin the driving line. It's possible to build it that way, the only problem is that players update maps from TMNF which are not optimised for TM2 and then the problems with pitch black sections or super bright sections occur which remove the fun in gaming. Only the players and the server admins can resolve this problem by building/picking the maps accordingly.

Regarding brightness issue, try to disable the bloom effect, this should reduce the lighting dynamism.

And if the tunnels are to dark, the maps were just used as is in TM² Stadium, without shadow / lightmap recalculation, and also especially without checking if there is need for some additional light in the tunnels.

Although the maps are basically compatible, some minimum rework is highly recommened to make them fit to TM² Stadium ;)
