Whats with cars clipping tracks in rounds?

Post by orangetuner »

Ive noticed that when i play rounds the cars lags and clip the track on turns, loops jumps ect, but when i play time attack all the cars seem perfectly fine.

does anybody know a way to fix this or is it suppose to be like this?

When you see other cars jumping around, that's because either they have a bad internet connection or you have a bad internet connection. Really depends. Both modes should be equal in terms of network consumption. Rounds might even need less, since there are usually less players on the same server.

yeah that's what i thought at first, but my internet connection is fine. And they dont exactly jump around they just dont stay on above the track. its like as if the collision isn't working right or something.

also, it totally goes away if im watching spectator in rounds.

Rounds got cars synced as realtime as possible, as a result the game tries to calculate the expected position of the car at a specific time based on the latest ghost info. Better connectivity could obviously resolve this (issue can be at yourself, the opponents or the server).

In TA all ghosts are delayed. Check in a larger server at the start time how you always seem to drive in front of all other ghosts, those are delayed because there's no need to synchronize the ghosts with the current exact time. As a result, the "real" ghost data is displayed.

While spectating in rounds the ghosts may be (never tested it) delayed as well, just like in TA, but they are all delayed just as much. It doesn't matter to delay ghosts a bit there as you don't drive yourself, synchronizing the cars by calculating the expected position isn't needed then.
