can't enter elite title

Post by andrus »

When I try to enter Elite title or join any Elite server I get a message:
"This Maniacredited package is unknown"
When I click 'ok' I get another message:
"this title is not playable."

This happens since I've upgraded winXP to win8.
What's more the title itself became free to play at the same time.

Is there any way to re-download Elite?

First try to ManiaPlanet run as Windows XP application (Compatibility mode).

And then, how did you install it?
Did you just copy the old files, or did you reinstall it completely?

It stayed on drive D (like every other game), only drive C was formatted.

edit: still doesn't work, I think it's rather connected to the introduction of elite demo rather than system change.

If you only start it from D: with a new Windows setup on C:, then all the previous and necessary registry entries are missing (which are usually created along with the installation only!).

So you reinstall windows but don't reinstall software? Then you'll find that lots of software won't work untill it's reinstalled as well.

No idea why you would expect everything to run on a new windows-installation without reinstalling the software.

ManiaPlanet is portable, registry entries are not necessary for it to work but only for gbx extension association and maniaplanet:// protocol.

However, you should check folders permissions which can be messy after a new Windows setup.

Cool, good to know

ManiaPlanet has files in three different folders. Default locations are:
- installation of the game exe: c:\Program Files (x86)\ManiaPlanet
- game data files: c:\ProgramData\ManiaPlanet
- personal data files: c:\Users\UserName\ManiaPlanet

Most probably you have put all them to D: somewhere.

In the ManiaPlanet Launcher the two data file folders locations can be changed also after installation.
Perhaps check this as well in case it is different with your new setup.
