"We listen to the community" - Nadeo since forever
"The netcode is shit" - Community since early alpha-days
It's still here.
That's all really! Enjoy your game turning into a massive failure because netcode is terribad!
*EDIT* No way to delete your user from the forums? Seeing as I just uninstalled the game I don't really intend to post here anymore.

Too bad you couldn't wait for the third big update
Not sure it would solve anything of your main complaints,
but to quit right now in the middle of nowhere is really weird.
Have fun with wathever you do instead, at least you don't have to worry anymore

Re: Netcode is a joke
If someone like sadzealot or me are waiting more than a year for better netcode to bring more players to play without "harlem shake" movement and player animations, with e-sport lags rage etc. I don't think ManiaPlanet 3 will change this.
My Gamemodes:
MP4 - Countdown, Firefight
MP3 - Reduction, Overload, Flashpoint, Territory, SM Race, Escape
MP2 - Search & Destroy, Oscillation, Instagib

Re: Netcode is a joke
The netcode in this game is great.
Really.
While many aspects of the game still remain subjects to change, the netcode is actually one of the best things about shootmania. I mean that. I came from the Battlefield 3 scene and I know a bit about bad netcode.
Get better.

Re: Netcode is a joke
This post has a trolling level >9000. How can you honestly say that the netcode in SM is great? How can a game in 2013 makes all players lag when just ONE player has bad ping? How is possible that a game doesnt reg laser/rocket hits even when all 3 dots (lol....) are on the hitbox?promasterpl wrote:The netcode in this game is great.

Re: Netcode is a joke
I'm not even trolling.
While the idea with snapshot delta balancing is controversial, and I can understand how people might get frustrated that they lag even tough their connection is decent, as long as most players on the server have pings below 80 the hitreg is really satisfying.
And once again, I know what I'm saying.
Let's compare Shootmania's hitreg to for example, infamous 64 tick servers in CS:GO:

To note, 64 tick servers are the OFFICIAL servers used for MATCHMAKING. Many decent level players are forced to play on those despite constant frustration and a lot of messages sent to Valve about the issue every day.
Also, let's now take at look at Battlefield 3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adfgUL5aM0I
I've played Battlefield 3 on high level in a lot of competitions and I can confirm that playing this game competitively was near impossible without so called 'hitreg fixes' which would often slow down your internet but were designed to improve the responsiveness of the client side detection.
Shootmanias hitreg may be far from perfect. But saying it's a joke is basically saying that it's worse than in both games mentioned above. But is it really? With such fast pace and dynamic of gameplay that SM offers, if the hitreg was as bad as in CS:GO/BF3, shots above 50 would be nearly impossible. Yet playing on instagib servers you can spot people shooting at 60+ meters range and keeping the accuracy above 50%. 3 dot system? Who really cares? The point is to centre your crosshair at the point of centre of mass of the opponent which is nearly exactly right in the middle of the body.
Rocket hit detection is the only thing that may be crucial for the next update; it really can be an annoying thing and shots often visibly pass through certain parts of the body or hit opponents even from up to 1 meter away. But those things are only really visible at short distance and are still to get used to. It's not the level of randomness shown in the videos above, it's still something that you can easily put up with.
At no point I said that the netcode in Shootmania is perfect. But in comparison to other competitive games it really stands out being one of the better netcodes you can find. Love it or hate it, no netcode is perfect and none will ever be, the only thing you can do is play a lot of instagib and observe how different animations are being combined with hitboxes.
edit: forgot to paste the link, silly me

Re: Netcode is a joke
That's an assumption that you make. I haven't seen anyone except you bring up those games in this thread. Just because some games are worse it doesn't necessarily mean this game is good. The other games are just WORSE in comparison. Also there are differences in the gameplay of all said games which makes a perfect netcode more or less important.promasterpl wrote:Shootmanias hitreg may be far from perfect. Netcode is all of the games components that are responsible for hit registration and sending data from and to players. How well the game handles lags and delays in player/sever connection is dependant on how is the netcode written. In case of some games, the netcode can be written so badly, that even slight delays cause major problems with registering hits in FPS games, so that what client sees on his PC is not exactly what happens on the server.Acronym for Network Code. The part of a game or application that handles the communication between the clients, server and/or peers.
