Question regarding a certain game related video.

Post by D1visor »

So i watched Darkpuddle's 10th Anniversary video and it's really well put together + i know how to do most things he did in the video, except for the part where it says "EDITOR" and the track is being built while the car is still driving. I have little bit of an idea how it could work but otherwise no clue ^^.

He drove a ghost, rendered the replay with and empty map, and then fades in with new blocks. ghost replay layer stays in front

I might be wrong but that's how I would make it.

I don't know if I quite understood Rots' idea.

However, I would build the Map, make one ghost and the cameras and export the first clip with complete map.
Then I'd delete some blocks, the ghost and cameras would stay as they are, so just make a second vid.
Repeat the process as often as you like and you got a handful of identical drives around a map in different stages of completion. Now you can mix 'em together as you like.

Makes sense, idk what prevented me from thinking of that in the first place.

Yes, i guess i'm not clear enough... In my mind it's clear but hard to explain properly ^^ Anyway, have a look at sec 0:59 and car shadows. That means track was built when that piece of replay was exported, and this destroys my theory. (unless he had the detail to add a shadow afterediting ^^)

Ask darkpuddle xD many ways to make it.

I drove a replay of the completed map, then I removed 1 block from the track and saved a new replay. Then I continued doing this until I had only the start block left.

Then I did some really confusing thing in the mediatracker which I don't really remember xD

I imported the 1st replay of the whole track in to the other replays of the different sections.

Then I had to render the videos all with the same camera movements :p

Simple, first make a camera for the full track etc. .
Save it as a clip. A clip contains all the mt blocks you have saved.
just import the clip on every single "obligatory replay", which marco explained.

Here's an explanation by eyebo from a couple months ago :) This seems like the best way to do it.
eyebo wrote:I don't know how others do it, but I would personally:

1. Make the full route and save the map.
2. Drive the route and save the replay.
3. Open the replay and export the ghost as a clip.
4. Create multiple versions of the map with different stages of the track built and save each version out to a replay file.
5. Open all the other version's replays and delete all the tracks and clips in them and import the original clip from the full track into those replays.
6. Render every replay out to video.
7. Add all the video clips to your NLE's timeline, one above the other on multiple tracks.
8. Change the end point of each clip and set a fade out on all the clips.

Doing this properly and the track will appear to be built ahead of the car as it drives the track.

Here's a YouTube video demonstrating it:

And here is a zip of the replays used to make the video:

And here's a screenshot of the way it was edited:
