[Server tool] Disable chat for all players?

Post by Fuzzy94 »

Hi,

I've been goooogling :3 if there are any plugins that allow admins in a tm2 stadium server to disable the chat for all players.

I saw something like this http://www.tm-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=10010 being used in TMN,
but is it possible to implement in TM2 as well?

Something like this is necessary for big events like fB's weekly race where there are a lot of players,
and every time there are bound to be people who didn't realize the rules or who knew the rules but break it.

I'm open for any any any replies.

Thx a lot!

Cheers,
Fuzzy

Yes it is possible,
The feature was developed for eXpansion but isn't available at the current release. it will be available at next one release with other stuff for tournaments as well. :D

As noted in the last post of that topic, XASECO2 admins can enable the server's built-in Ignore function on any player via /admin ignore or the /admin players list window.

I think Fuzzy94 wants to deactivate chat for all players not just a few. So only admins for exemple can chat on the server.

This can be practical but it might also prevent players with good intentions to chat, I can't think of multiple cases where disabling the chat could create problems. But then I am haven't taken place in many matches so I wouldn't know.

This sounds very useful, I'd definitely be interested in switching to eXpansion (again) for my race once it's ready and working well =)

Well, the problem with my race is that when people are chatting it distracts a lot of people that are driving in the race, and may even cause lag for some. I know you can simply just disable the hud, but many people (including myself) likes to play with it on to get more information.
I've tried to just reason with people and tell them to not chat, but it seems like it just never works, especially not when people are finishing the race which is when the most distraction and potential lag happens for those who are still driving further back in the pack. Also if people are new to the race they simply could just miss that you're not supposed to chat which is something that's hard for me to control. So that's why I would like to be able to disable the chat during the race. Before and after I'd of course have it on.
I'm curious though, what problems could it create to disable it you think? I can't really think of any to be honest, at least not for this kind of endurance race with 150+ participants.

Well there is a few example, if a player finds a shortcut in the map and start using no one can tell you he "cheating". Or if a player just wants to stop the match for 2 minutes due to personal reasons but then on races like yours with hundreds of players that is quite rare I suppose :D

so when will the pack be ready, we are nearly there :D we have implemented huge changes for competitions this weekend, we need to test, and then I think we will have a great release that might be tried out with one of your tournements
Reaby is a bottomless pit of good ideas :D and there is always better stuff to do so we won't be done any time soon. :D

I do save the replay of each race so that If there was a shortcut I can simply just take a look at it to see who cheated and have their results not count if they finished. In fact, that's what I had to do for the most recent race since there sadly was a shortcut... And for this kind of race I think it would be impractical for me to stop it just because one individual needs to take a break (or if someone accidentally retires). I always say before my race starts that once it begins there's no turning back and I can't restart it unless something major happens. That's just kinda how it needs to be I think for a race of this size. Anyway, for a normal match that's played in Rounds/Team/Cup then I can see it being a problem to disable the chat and I wouldn't recommend it to be honest.
