Hi,

Idea!
An IRC-clone directly into ManiaPlanet so we can talk to all players instantly.


Where did this idea come from?
Its not easy to find praccs/wars anymore. mIRC is always empty... because yeah... IRC is getting old.
Lately players are joining servers or teamspeaks (poke , *pling* *pling* poke) or they are even pm'ing their entire friendslist just to find a pracc.
Its annoying if you cant find a pracc & its annoying if you get spammed by someone who's trying to find a pracc.

Problem #1: How to filter text?
If someone would create this like in the screenshot then how will we seperate TM & SM news?
--> A player that plays TM, shouldnt read texts about SM ( and vice verca )

Solution:
Filters?


Problem#2: Moderation
Ofcourse some will spam, some will insult, some will spam personal things or make some advertisements

Solutions:
- 1 message max every 30seconds
- No duplicate posts
- No URLS allowed
- No CAPS?
- Bad-word-filter
- English only
- Report function (report someone for bad language --> player will be temp banned from this plugin)


Problem#3: If 2 players find what they are looking for and wanna talk (PM)... how & where will they communicate?

Possible solutions:
- Clicking on someones name sends a "buddy request"
- The current buddylist has an EXTRA tab where all PM's are shown (screenshot)
- The plugin itself works with tabs ( just like IRC )
- No PMs. Clicking on the playername will connect you to the server he is playing on.

I dont really think there would be any other problems besides these.


Benefits:
- Find praccs faster ( Elite 3v3, ON, HIGH )
- Find players for your title faster ( New title released. Anyone wants to play? )
- You get to know new players
- More connection between player. Better community feeling.
- ...


Features:
- Tooltips displaying time
- Custom text color for better reading & some other settings
- You dont have to use the plugin if you dont want too.
- ...


PS: I wanted to include a scrollbar in the design but yeah ...

I really believe this could somehow boost title-population too.
Just like this "title of the day" it would again help custom titles a little bit ( amongs all other benefits )

Problem #1: How to filter text?
In WoW and other MMOs there are multiple chats running parallel. So you'd have a chat for "speaking" (only people around you) and one chat for "regional" (everyone in the region of the worldmap, that you are in.

Edit: I believe they even have a specific "trade chat", but man, it's really long ago that I've seen that game the last time...

So that might be an idea, one chat only in the title (which should work fine when looking for a pracc in Elite) and one global chat?

In the end would be the most awesome solution if I could open a private chat with someone that is not in my buddy list.
Again, PMing in a chat kinda way is nothing new in MMOs. Hell, Lukas/kremsy has programmed a PM plugin for ManiaControl, so you can PM people on the server. As well as it's done, unfortunately it is not as useful to PM people on the server, as it would be with people far away.
We have the PM feature that is like sending E-mails but... E-Mail and Chat, very different uses.

I think the most logical would be to just have it IN the plugin itself.
It makes the most sense.

It's not about PM or something, it's just a global chat.

I just meant, that if you managed to make a nice PM tool, I am of good hopes that Nadeo could do the same, if they find the time.

As nova says, once you find the people in global chat that you want to talk to, it would be nice to PM them, instead of still using the global chat. But atm you need to add so. to your buddy list before you can send PMs, so we need a more liberal PM policy here. :D
