Hood cam

Post by Zevron »

Basically, topic, give us a hood cam in addition to the bumper cam. I can't stand 3rd person perspective, but the only in-car cam is annoyingly low.

Seconded!

I find this would be a very beneficial addition to the series and not too hard to pull off either. Please NADEO!?

You haven't to wish it, because you can do it yourself. See:

... even cockpit cam is possible:

But the interior isn't very detailed... :?

I agree... Need a hood cam... front bumper cam is too low... and behind car too hard to control for my tastes.

Agreed. Something to show where the corners of the car are. I find the cam position was a major source of frustration for certain tracks in United Star Edition as well. The bumper cam is good for certain loops but for other stunts seeing where your corners are to line them up properly (when trying to line up a long jump to a narrow road or between obstacles) a hood view or helmet cam view would be wonderful.

While this is a good idea, I foresee a problem, and it's this: If the hood cam is to be used with custom models, then you're going to have to code in a "point" somewhere on the car that then can be placed on custom models, so the camera "knows" where to go, otherwise, you may end up in the middle of the hood, or on top of the roof, depending on how the car is built, especially if TM2 is going to be anything like TM1 with nutty car imports. :P Same goes for pilot cam.

While the custom car thing might be an issue I think that that it could be a easy workaround something as simple as Nadeo allowing for a for a custom placement of the camera around the car model in the pain screen or even adding an option for it in the account personalization menu somewhere (maybe with horns and trails in that list or something). It is just a matter of WILL they? Cause we ALL know they can!

Possibly implement the hood-cam or helmet cam view for default Nadeo Models, but disable it for custom skins or just post a warning that custom skins may conflict with hood/roof/helmet cams. If that's the case it's up to the player to decide whether to use the model and lose the hood-cam or whether the hood-cam is more important.

For me the bumper-cam is too low and often I clip obstacles I thought I passed because it is not at all clear where the edges of my car are in the view. I know it can be done, I know Nadeo even already has the code for this because GPS for certain maps have shown the interior of the car (helmet cam) or the hood of the car (hood-cam). The former I have only seen in canyon, but the latter is present in Stadium as well.

So, from what I can see, the code is already there. The question, as SANMAN observed, is whether the devs chose to spend time to implement that as a player-selectable option or not. As for forced camera changes either the 3 camera options could have a user-defined view that forced camera changes in maps just identify as view 1,2,or 3. That way the builder can give a camera change to assist in driving the track (stunts etc) and the user can chose which 3 views they like the best and work best for them.
