I'm curious to see how the Nadeo policy of selling additional environments as DLC will affect servers.
I could buy the standard package (valley, arena) and maybe buy some additional envis, let's call them moon and baja but not highway. I join a server. A highway track comes up. What happens?
Alternatively, maybe I won't be allowed into the server at all if I don't have highway. This discourages the server owner to actually add highway tracks to the rotation, because a significant part of his potential userbase may be unable to join. In the end, the best strategy for server owners is to add exclusively tracks for basic environments so everyone can join - just like stadium today.

Separately sold environments vs servers?

Re: Separately sold environments vs servers?
Hylis has indicated that one of the options would be that servers would have choice to have the server opened for a specific enviro or to all enviros (i suppose for a specific game). But it is not definitive, so it will probably decided during first beta, or perhaps why not changed later. Wait an see

You were in this thread and didn't answer my original question!Alinoa wrote:It's better to open a different topic when the question is not directly linked to the topic subject.

Re: Separately sold environments vs servers?
well Hylis has already talked about this so it is only natural that the nadeo team will not go over the same stuff again and again
and don't worry about the servers and stuff. this is nadeo
have they ever let us down?
and the beta will be free but only available to a small number of people when it comes out

I just can't see how it'll be done without causing some hassle to the players... That's why TMF was so great... because it was, well... United.

Re: Separately sold environments vs servers?
Why would it be hassle? They're doing this BECAUSE of the community. In TMU, everyone had their "favorite" and "hated" enviro. Me? I like 'em all.
I just don't like some of the tracks FOR the environments, but that's a different story. But anyway, if you test out an enviro (it would be ridiculous to think there'd be no demo) and find you don't like it, simply don't buy, and play the two-enviro combo servers. I'm sure there'll be categories of one, two, and all three enviro servers to race in.
