MediaTracker removal bug.

Post by Vrba »

So this is kind of a thing I've noticed, which should be fixed.

Let's say you got a nice track, which has a potential shortcut, but the author was clever enough and blocked it with MT. Black screen for example. Sounds like a good solution, but what the main problem is, that you can open the map in editor (if you can get it(if you know how you can get ALL of them)) and just remove the MT and overwrite the track.

What does this bug do?
You can re-add the track on a server, and *POOF* you can drive the whole track without any MT! No blackscreen, no text, no helicopter view and no whatever the map author implemented.

How is this possible?
By removing any form of MT you actually don't change anything in the track itself for some reason, thus MX or Dedimania recognize the track (and replay) as being the same as before. Tested and checked this, replays can be posted on MX and Records can be drive online because the UID of the track remains unchanged.

How to solve this?
My guess would be that the MT should count as a block, so as soon as it's removed, the track changes and doesn't stay the same anymore and people can't post replays / drive records in an unfair way.

Hope anything can be done about this.

Best regards,
Vrba

Please test again. Each change in the Ingame Mediatracker (and every other change that have an influence on the gameplay) causes that the map is no longer validated (yellow flag instead of a green one). Therefore you need to validate it again and the result is that the track obtains a different map author and UID. However, it is possible to change the Intro and the Outro without the map becomes invalid. And that's good.
In addition, each author should protect its work with a password.

You can remove MT and track stays same, I've tested that in TMU and TM2. Password would solve the problem, but there's already such a huge amount of tracks released, that it's a bit late to tell everyone ''please put pwd on track''.

I just tested again and once I pressed remove at MT, the flag didn't change from green to yellow.

In my case, the flag always changes from green to yellow...
I converted many tracks of my team buddies from TMF to MP and had to edit them for this reason with a hex editor.

I'm talking about downloading a track from MX or directly from server, not importing from TMU to MP.

Then it let me rephrase easier: I can't reproduce the bug you reported. Maybe someone else can.

hey vrba,

in my tracks i try to make the mt ingame fully at once. if i don't do that or i forgot something i always get the yellow flag and i have to validate the map again just of a single ingame mt change.

you talked about downloading the map from mx and go to editor and change the mt ingame and you can still play the map without mt. since i always use a pw for my maps, because i don't like it, when people want to steal some mt or trackparts without asking. so i don't have the chance to try your problem. i will reproduce this this afternoon and afterwords i will edit this post with the result. stay tuned :)

EDIT: ok,i just tested it. here the result: if you delete the blocks normally you get a yellow flag and i guess that is what electron did, but if you go to the editor to "Mediatracker Sequences" and choose "Remove" at "In Game" then you have still the green flag. so yea this is a bug!

Thanks gugaruz, for testing. I wondered about Vrba's phrase "remove all MT ..." but I never thought that he meant the "Remove" push button in the main menu (because I never used it). Please excuse the misunderstanding, Vrba.

Now I can also reproduce and confirm the bug!
