Trackmania 2 Canyon Display Resolution and Cursor Error

Post by joshjn »

I recently bought Canyon and it is essentially unplayable due to an issue or glitch that I think has something to do with the game's resolution settings. Because of this problem, I am unable to navigate menus properly and unable to reach some buttons/parts of the screen entirely with my mouse. I can use the arrow keys for most things, but some menus, for whatever reason, do not support that.

So, I know that the resolution is incorrect because the Steam overlay icon in the right corner is showing up extremely small, as is the Steam overlay screen when I hit Shift+Tab. I had this problem before in Skyrim because my NVIDIA GeForce Experience had set the resolution to something different than what my game settings were. TM2 Canyon is not on GeForce Experience, though, so that's not what's messing things up. Obviously I've opened up the game launcher and changed resolution settings for Canyon there, but no matter what I change it to, there is no difference when I open the game. I have also tried running it in a window instead of fullscreen, but that simply doesn't work: it still runs in fullscreen mode.

This leads to the next problem. Because (probably) the resolution settings are so messed up, the visible cursor position in-game is not actually where my mouse is pointing. To clarify, the "Settings" button is highlighted, ready to be clicked, my cursor will be showing up somewhere a couple inches below and to the right of the highlighted button. This problem gets worse the further to the right of the screen I try to go. The "Options" button is on the left of the screen, so my cursor will have to be about two inches below and a third of an inch to the right to click that button. Then, the "Settings" button is further to the right of the screen so my cursor will now have to be below and about an inch to the right to click it. Then, a drop down menu with a graphics settings option pops up all the way to the right of the screen where my mouse will have to be probably 4 inches to the right of the button to click it, but obviously that's no longer on my monitor so clicking it is impossible.

Again, it is impossible to click the graphics settings button in-game, so I cannot try to fix the problem that way.

I don't know if this is a common problem. I don't know what could be messing this up. It does not happen with any other game I have on my PC. Note that I have tried turning the Steam overlay off, but that doesn't work. I don't know if another program could be interfering either.

I'll list relevant components and software here:

GPU: GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Dual Series
CPU: 6th Gen Intel Core i7-6850K 3.60GHz
HDD game is installed onto: Seagate BarraCuda 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
MBoard: ASRock X99 Taichi

Monitor: Samsung 27" Essential Curved Monitor, 1920 x 1080, 16:9, connected with HDMI

Software: NVIDIA GeForce Experience, Steam...

Display Settings: 1920 x 1080 (Everywhere)

I have all the latest official drivers.

Could somebody please help me figure this out? Thanks so much! I would really love to get playing this game!

TL;DR: Resolution settings wrong regardless of launcher settings. Cannot click where cursor appears and can't reach in-game graphics settings.

Hi there.
So, after installing the game, did it run a 'Bench''? If not, it should have. Maybe you could check the launcher settings are NOT Customized, then reset to defaults (both on the Configure/ Advanced/ Display sheet).

Was your antivirus (as well as Windows Defender) turned off during installation? Some of these programs tend to cause problems when installing.
* Yes, you should turn these back on after that.

Only a couple of suggestions from me now - hope this helps. :?

Cheers :pil
