Don't know if the thread title is a good choice, but didn't know how to name it better =)
In this topic, i want to talk about the following stuff.
In TM there are the solo maps and online competitions (organised by ET and other teams, e.g. DBC or Maniacup).
In the solomode there are coppers to spent, in the online competitions there are coppers or fame to win. But the other users won't see, in which of this competitions you took part, or what's your solo rank is.
In TM2, it would be great to see different possibilities, to earn fame. Not only for the racers, but also for the mappers.
What about a monthly mapping contest, like the star track one? Maybe pick each months 5 maps and held in the next 4 weeks a racing competition on them (e.g ROC)?
With earning fame i mean, that your result, if you took place in such competitions will be displayed somewhere in your profile and other players can see it, when you join on a server (also the singleplayer points and rank).
Just a few thoughts, add more, if you find some.

I was shocking reading the title : i expected "buying it in coppers/planets" as an answer !tcq wrote:Don't know if the thread title is a good choice, but didn't know how to name it better =)

There are already lots of debates related to how the greatest maps should be picked up and rewarded. The awards system of TMX is quite criticized, such as the procedure of ET to select maps. The Startrack contests didn't lead to a great selection of maps, in my opinion... I feel there isn't a perfect procedure, thus any Nadeo system wouldn't be more than another parallel system.tcq wrote:In TM2, it would be great to see different possibilities, to earn fame. Although fame seems an important issue for a lot of people, i doubt it's up to Nadeo to decide by any mean who has to be famous or not. Fame shouldn't come from the top to the bottom, even if sometimes it happens in real life (see singers who succeed despite of their poor music because they took part to a reality-tv show

By the way, i guess lots of people who made great things for the community are well known, so even without a system dedicated to fame, fame builds up.
Of course, this point is totally personal and i acknowledge other people could have other thinkings. I don't want to "kill" your idea, but i think it's a complex issue and it may need a lot of thinking.
Yes, it could be in an "archivements" window after the "online description" window. Then, maybe people will not look only at the ladder rank.tcq wrote:With earning fame i mean, that your result, if you took place in such competitions will be displayed somewhere in your profile and other players can see it, when you join on a server (also the singleplayer points and rank).

It could also contain links to the organizations you belong, such as your team, ET if you are an ET admin, TMX if you are a TMX admin, and so on. But i guess you can already manage that with tags and the "online description" window.

Someway i think the topic will drift in the wrong direction ^^archmagelord wrote:Great idea I think. I want to have a chance that everyone knows that Im one of the best players
I told, that fame was maybe a wrong name for the stuff i meant. I meant something, to get a possibility to see how good and active a player/mapper is in what he is doing. So a list of achievments on a regulary basis (e.g. monthly contests) could be a possibility to get this.Romain42 wrote:Although fame seems an important issue for a lot of people, i doubt it's up to Nadeo to decide by any mean who has to be famous or not. See also that any organization that "provides" fame - such as TV - is often biased : you can hear very often some styles of musics on the TV/the radio, but they are not allways true to what real people prefer/want to hear...).
Totally agree with that.Romain42 wrote:I prefer fame to be something that develops slowly in a community, by complex and diverse mechanisms, but which isn't piloted and powered by any centralized organization. Note that what applies to maps applies also to skins, 3D car models, mods, events, and so on. Of course, every time somebody commits in the community, he/she should be rewarded for that.

Okay, i think i understand more now. I think it can be interesting, but still damn complex.tcq wrote:I told, that fame was maybe a wrong name for the stuff i meant.
