Post by RamCUP2000 »

Send login verification (on new pc) to email, or something else?

I had a post written up, but thought I'd do a search first to make sure someone else hadn't posted about this first. Then I see this topic. So I'll just drop my post here instead of creating a new topic:

I use Two Factor Authentication (2FA) in every service that offers it. It just gives some added peace of mind.

I hope it's on the roadmap to implement proper 2FA for ManiaPlanet at some point.

The current validation codes system is very unfriendly to use for new users.

To make matters worse, Steam users no longer get a game key which they could use to reset their validation code on their player page. So if they lose it, that's it, they can't use Planets in-game anymore, which severely limits their ability to do things in the game.

Besides that, validation codes only protect planet transfers, and doesn't protect the general security of your ManiaPlanet account.

I'd like to see proper 2FA implemented for ManiaPlanet, with the ability to add a mobile number, email address, and/or add your ManiaPlanet account to Authy or Google Authenticator by means of a QR code. This would also allow players the ability to more easily verify their identity and do password resets outside of the game, and not rely on Ubisoft support.

Clearly security is important, or validation codes would have never been a thing in the first place. So I hope 2FA can be implemented someday, and replace the current validation code system.
