Is it just me or is Maniaplanet a mess?

I remember buying Canyon in 2012 after playing TM Nations United for almost two years. I loved the game, and I was really eager to see new content. So, I got Canyon back then and played a lot. I played with my friends and I had a lot of fun, then I kinda lost interest until recently.

I decided to install it again and try it out this year. What I was met with I just do not understand. The UI is clunky and confusing and it is more or less impossible for me to just play with my friends.

We spent a whole lot of time trying to get local play to work over Hamachi, which back then worked just fine. There's this confusing menu with scripts that you have to try with trial and error because they give you random errors (even after following a guide) and then when we did finally find a script that works, neither of us were able to connect to the person hosting.

So I decided to try the "create" button on the online server list, which in turn did absolutely nothing and I was still not able to connect to play with my friend. So then I decided to try making a dedicated server but I got stuck at the part with credentials after creating a dedicated server account, I did not understand where to find the credentials on the website, that the guide I followed did not even mention. So we gave up and played a different racing game.

Now the point of this forum post wasn't really to complain but rather just bring to light that the way this is set up is an incredibly bad UX, it should come to no surprise that not being able to play with your friends easily in a game like this is laughably stupid.

I really like this game and it makes me sad to see that it's more or less dying because of bad decisions, I hope this can be resolved soon to bring this game to a better place. Is it just me?

Yep, you're right, this has been discussed a lot of times before. Hopefully the menus will get a much-needed overhaul in the future. At least the buddylist and stuff is better now with 4.1.

Yes, the Maniaplanet UI is completely confusing, nothing is clear...
I hope they will change the ingame menu too
