CusThumb for TMUF, TMNF and TM²

Post by Demonaz »

This program allows you to change the thumbnail/snapshot embedded in the TM Map.
Version 1.0.0.7 the 11/09/11 at 18h00
Download
Version 1.0.0.7 : trackbar added for the JPEG compression level
Version 1.0.0.6 : adding checkbox for backuping map and thumbnail, with prefix choice for the map backup.
Version 1.0.0.5 : bug correction

How to
Click on Loap map to open a TM² or TMxF map.
Click on Load custom image to load a custom image :?
The image should be in 256x256 pixels. If it's not the case, it will be resized.
Once it's done, click on the custom image to put it in the map in the place of the original.

The program does 2 things :
1 - a backup of the original thumbnail/snapashot in the same folder than the map.
2 - a copy of the map prefixed with CusThumb- is created with the new snapshot in it. So you don't lose the original map. Once all is good, you can delete it.

Don't hesitate to provide me feedbacks !

This project is a full rewrite of my old program MediaInjector. It more restrictive where MediInjector was an "all media" thing. This one is limited to images.

Feedback: The application gives me an error when opening my track

EDIT: For instance, beta maps work, newer maps don't

Hey Demonaz,

i need exactly that kind of snapshot parsing for my manialink.
I don't want to make screenshots for the tracks i provide for download.

I would appreciate, if you could give me a hint, how one could extract the track's snapshot from the GBX.

(sorry for my bad english)

Hey,

in the Gbx file of the map (for all TrackManias that have track thumbnails) there is <thumbnail> or <thumbnail.jpg> (not sure) in the header (when you open the Gbx files with a hex editor). The code is just a jpg file. You can copy that code to a new hex editor file and it's a perfectly valid Gbx.
I wrote a tutorial on United TMX for this

With the gbxchallfetch.php script in the GBX Data Fetcher module you can easily extract/save the thumbnail to a 256x256 .jpg file. The script already does the image flip for you (if the relevant PHP libraries are installed). This is more of a Linux / programmer's solution as you'd need to slightly modify gbxchallfetch.php (thumb export is disabled by default).

On Windows, Electron's GbxDump utility can also do the export, as a 256x256 .bmp file. Much easier than hex editing. ;)
