[TM2] CRASHES - Screen goes black and computer crashes

Post by Brooframe »

On seemingly random occasions (it can happen anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours after starting the game) the game freezes, the screen goes black, the sound starts acting up and the only thing I can do about it is to restart my computer.

Win7 64bit
Pentium Dual Core 2.60GHz
ATI Radeon HD 5700 series

I have downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card and tried setting all the graphics options in-game to lowest, but the problem still persists.

Can't find any crashlog saved in My documents => ManiaPlanet => LogCrash

Can you put your game windowed and after fullscreen?

I used to have the exact same issue when playing World of Warcraft, but was able to resolve it thanks to the help of their forums where a few others had the same problem. This is what the wow forums told me to do:

1) Close down the game

2) Locate the World of Warcraft installer folder

3) Open WTF/Config.wtf with Notepad

4) Add the following line to the end of that file SET FixedFunction "1"

5) Save that file then restart the game.

This should reduce or stop the crashes.

I don't know much about the technical stuff, but maybe something similar is applicable on TM2?

Having a similar problem myself, is getting very frustrating. I can play as short a time as one track or go for almost two hours before it happens. Game will freeze, then blackscreen but the audio sometimes remains. If I catch it quickly enough, I can cancel TM2 in Task Manager, otherwise I need to do a hard reset of the machine.

Win7 64bit
Intel Quad Core Q9650 @ 3.00GHz
8GB RAM
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB

I've tried running the game at the lowest settings, the highest settings, in safe mode - doesn't seem to make any difference at all. Have trawled through the forums and safe to say, if it's been suggested, I've tried it. I've also updated every single driver available for my system.

Note this has happened historically with certain with other specific games from time to time - World of Warcraft, but never EVE Online. Warhammer Online too had the same issue.

Any suggestions please?

Same here. I installed TM2 today. So far I have had around 5 crasches like this, playing a couple of hours.
First the black screen, then you can hear the car crasch and at that point the crasch sound loops.

The first few crasches I ran on Nvidia driver version 275.xx but on the last crasch I had just installed version 280.26 and rebooted before starting ManiaPlanet. Worked only for 5 minutes.

Win 7 32bit (SP1 + latest updates)
Inte Core2 Duo E8400 @3.00GHz
4 GB RAM (3.25 GB usable)
Motherboad: Asus Formula Rampage, using integrated sound
Geforce 9800 GTX

I have the exact same issue, but it happens to me at most at 10 minute mark of playing.

I made this post, you may find it useful: Link

Also, at this moment i'm able to play since using the exact "Very Fast" settings don't crash the graphics card, it's not very pretty, but at least I can play.
