Help Professor Kliq - who made the music for the TM2 trailer

Post by TStarGermany »

Believe it or not...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77r-ghIOQso
This is an official launch trailer for TM2 in Ubisoft's Youtube channel

And now guess what .. the guy who made the song 10 years ago (Professor Kliq - Traffic Cars), came along the video by pure accident and commented on the video how surprised and happy he was that the music was chosen for the trailer (makes you wonder how UBI handles other peoples' artwork :ß)

But the guy - who calls himself Professor Kliq - is in need! He needs YOU!

http://www.youtube.com/user/professorkliq
He's in his last university semester and is unable to pay for it.

So PLEASE! If you can spare a dime or two : Spend it on his college fund.
Personallly, I hope UBI/Nadeo have spent (or intend to spend) some dimes on him as well, since his work complimented their game presentation.

Of course, Nadeo-Ubisoft paid the rights to the rightholders of the music (we always do with any music we use). Regarding your comment on how Ubisoft handles other people's artwork, we have to get in touch with rightholders, not with the artist. Normally it is the rightholder's role to inform the artist (Professor Kliq, Dirtyphonics, Queen's club etc. are all represented by music labels/publishers). I know it may sound slightly strange and impersonal to you, but some artists may be bothered by relentless demands, and publishers may feel we're "going over their head". So we just follow the usual way things are done. Of course things are different if we work directly with artists for original work (ingame music and Gamescom' trailer for example).

After that, it depends very much on the artist relationship with the rightholders.

I also donated to his studies from my pocket by the way, I find his music awesome (not only traffic cars by the way, the whole album is jaw dropping). If you read here: Good luck for your graduation Professor! :D

Best,

Edouard

Well done.

Professor Kliq said he made that song 10 years ago (when he was -15- years old), so I didn't think he had published this with any distributor back then and he said he was surprised about this, so I naturally thought noone had said anything to him about this (which looks ... not like a good relationship between artist/seller).

I'll spend 5 dimes on his fund, almost everyone can spend 5 dimes. I hope others will also follow.

I used one of his songs in one of my videos, and love his music. I made a nice donation already about a week ago.

I had an email exchange with the rightholders and apparently somebody made a mistake and did not notify Professor Kliq when we bought the rights. Unfortunate, but nothing wrong from us.

Cool to see that talented people like blackshark do something with his music. I think this is the best thing we can do for him: Show how great an artist he is! :3

I wonder who the rights holder is for commercial use, since he releases his music under creative commons license.
How exactly are you supposed to do in this case ? Do you go through SACEM or someone else ?

He released under creative commons, but for commercial use you need to pay rights normally. In this case, Jamendo holds the rights to his music.
