Having FPS issues? try this.

Posted this under multiplayer section already but it applies to the game in general so thought I'd post again here, so if anyone is having issues with performance they can try this to see if it helps them.

Was getting quite bad dips in fps on some online maps so was tweaking things trying to cure it and the setting I found made a BIG difference.
I was talking to someone online last night that also was experiencing issues and recommended it to him and it helped a lot too so thought I'd share it.

Set GPU/CPU Synchro to "NONE" in settings - advanced - compatibility

Also the ingame vsync in compatibility seems to be buggy.
I was mostly solid 60, but occasionally online it would drop to 40.
Disabled vsync and it was solid 100 and where it dropped to 40, was now dropping to 80.
So I forced vsync on the card instead and seems to have sorted it for me.
Solid 60 now pretty much all the time, and lowest I've seen it drop to is 56.

Thank you very much for posting this info. Since the original beta release I have had issues where the game would just freeze. Sometimes after just a few minutes and other times up to an hour of play.

After trying multiple settings and adjustments nothing worked. My FPS were always great but the game would just freeze and I'd have to launch the task manager which showed Maniaplanet is not responding.

With the settings you suggested I have now played for several hours this evening with the video set to "Nice" with no game freeze. My FPS according to FRAPS stays at exactly 60.

Thanks again! You have saved me much aggravation and made my game much more enjoyable. I would say almost everyone understands how maddening it can be when your in official mode and having an awesome run and the game stops playing. i almost uninstalled the game completely.

I'd suggest anyone having gameplay issues of any kind try these settings before completely giving up on it.

FYI: I have an Nvidia 9800GTX+

Thanks for the tip. I have a 9800Gt and this definitely made the ride smoother, however, I still get the lock up problem, which typically happens directly after the race when it attempts to change to next screen. Thanks for the tip.

Make sure you have the latest driver released in Aug 2011. Also, I have Win 7 and in the beta release I had to run it in WinVista SP3, but when beta 4 released I had to change it back to run normally in win 7. You may need to change the setting for the launcher as well as the game's exe. It helped mine, maybe help yours as well. We have a very similar card except mine is a GTX+ (OC'd)
