Screen goes black and computer completely locks up in play

I downloaded TrackMania 2 today, and every time I play it, it works perfectly fine for a short while then both my monitors turn blank and say "No signal", the sound just turns to an inactive car engine and then starts looping and absolutely nothing works - I can't use any system combination to do anything and I have to physically reset my computer.
This happens every time I have started it up (although the last time my monitor just displayed a dark stripy pattern instead of going completely blank).

Can anyone provide any insight as to why this is happening?

My specs are:
Intel core i5 3.30 GHz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4770 (but my computer says HD 3800 series)

Any help? I tried turning off high definition and anisotropic filtering but neither worked.

Try to update your gfx card drivers

Yes, I upgraded my graphics drivers to the most recent version and still the problem is present.

I don't have any solution, but I've experience this as well.


I've been getting this exact same problem recently, 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Once it happened while playing Portal 2, so it's not isolated to this game for me.

While playing Trackmania 2 though I have noticed an increase in an video driver issue that crashes my game, the "display driver nvlddmkm has stopped working but has recovered" error message.

At the same time as these two problems occuring I also started getting blue screens with the same nvlddmkm.sys error, and colors going insane on my displays (I use two monitors).

I have a Dell XPS 730x with two nvidia geforce gtx 285 cards with SLI, and after calling Dell tech support and going through diagnostics with them, we found that one of my cards (my main one that my 2 monitors are plugged into) was completely broken. So they're sending me a new video card. I've also completely uninstalled & deleted my old drivers and gotten new ones.


However, I have gotten the black monitor issue even after removing the broken video card, and running the good card by itself. Both monitors lose signal, and I have to do a hard reset. It even happened to me while talking to someone on skype, and I kept talking to them just fine, so it's clearly just a display issue.

No idea what the issue is, but it's not limited to just 1 game for me.

What your OS system Windows ???? Version ???? And Pc or laptop ????
And why 2 monitors ,the consumption from your graphic card 2 times more .... you are on the limit
Try to lowest graphic settings and see or its run , or use 1 monitor

Windows 7 64-bit build 7601, service pack 1.
My PC is custom-made.
And now, I'll try and run it with only one monitor - but I use one monitor only to run TrackMania, the other monitor is just displaying the windows desktop at the time so I can't see any problem with that...

I had similar issues to this when playing Portal 2 a few months ago. Turned out my graphics card was massively overheating and turning itself off to prevent meltdown. Trying using something like http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur to stress your card, and http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html to monitor if it's getting too hot.

as i heared , some of the nvidia series cards are overclocked from factory and are overheating ,

u need to update the bios then - only from manufacturer !!
did not expirience that error with radeon card.
