Hi everybody!
Once again I'm sorry if this isn't welcome here - I just wanted to post that after a lot of days of hard work I've finished a Canyon videoclip for one of my songs. I'm a professional musician, and a sound engineer as well - and after so many years of negligence towards my PC games I fell in love playing something once again, which was (tada) Trackmania Canyon. Since I write all the time (it is among my childhood dreams to compose music for games) I thought maybe using the game's built-in mediatracker I could record some videoclip-like scenes for the song.
Well, I'm not a pro driver, but here you go anyway, I hope you like it!

Re: Canyon music video
nice work!
You have some nice ideas, e.g. split-screen night + day, some events that match the music, some breaks etc.
I only felt the music to be a little bit to heavy (metal) for TM, especially the bass, drums and guitars were a bit too much, but this is only my personal impression.
I liked the tunes and your melodies and improvisations.
Perhaps you will find people who can drive and make great movies where your music would fit perfectly!

If you'd like to write music for games, you may want to check out Miner Wars 2081 (http://www.minerwars.com/?aid=314). The devs are accepting contributions of all kinds, including music, from the community -- I'm hoping to get some of my work in there too, but I have some other, more important obligations to meet with my music so it's possible I won't be able to.
Check it out and if you like the look of the game, start looking around for the documetation on what is required for the soundtrack material (the general guidelines are dark songs [instrumentals if you're literal
], mostly orchestral, but there is some rock/metal influence in there too because the OST deliberately takes influence from the CD soundtrack of Descent 2 -- look for some more specific information though -- I don't have it all in front of me right now).
The other great part of this is, if your work is accepted into the OST, you get to work alongside one of the best composers in the game music industry -- their audio director and head composer is Dan Wentz, one of the most successful game composers (at least outside of Japan
) of all time. Look him up if you haven't heard of him... though since you're so interested in the game music industry I wouldn't be surprised if you have. You've heard his work if you've played Red Faction, Freespace, or (I believe) Saint's Row. (I can check that last one).
As a little aside, though the game does have a pre-alpha playable version available for purchase, you don't need to buy anything to contribute your work to the game's development. Your contribution won't be judged based on whether you bought anything either -- only by the quality of the work itself (and it's worth noting that if you do end up contributing something that makes it into the game or OST, I believe you get a free copy of the game).

The eyes of the plush lobster stared deep into my soul. I picked it up, and then I was a panther.

Re: Canyon music video
Thank you so much - I really appreciate the help. Actually I finished as a classic composer (at least that's what they wrote on my diploma), so it shouldn't be a problem to compose more classical arranged-stuff. It's just I write HEAVY when it comes to my taste, but I also did some children's lullaby CDs, so... diversity worksAlter-Fox wrote:If you'd like to write music for games, you may want to check out Miner Wars 2081 (http://www.minerwars.com/?aid=314). Thanks again, I'll look into it!
