ManiaPub in Maniaplanet: it starts now!

Post by gouxim »

Edit: it has started!

-----

Dear community,

ManiaPub is soon to be release in Maniaplanet. We hope it will be a great tool for creators to give them the power to reach a broader audience, and for players to easilly discover what the community has to offer.

For those already familiar with ManiaPub in TMF, the basic idea remains the same: you create ingame advertisement for your Manialinks using the ingame currency.

Just like ManiaHome when we released it in Maniaplanet, here we want to go one step further in its integration with the system: you will be able to advertise directly in various game menus, in order for the ads to be better targeted and more appealing to the players.

Want to advertise skins & models? Why not do that directly in the vehicles selection menu! Want to advertise your Track Editor plugins? Do it directly in the editor! Dont' worry though, user experience matters and your game will NOT morph into a giant ad ;)

We have not yet defined all the locations where you'll be able to advertise, and it's going to evolve anyway. But you can expect something looking like the following:

Just like in TMF, you have both Ads and Campaigns. An Ad is an image and a link. A campaign is the usage of an Ad at a specific location and for a specific zone. We apply moderation on the Ads ; once an ad is validated, you can use in campaigns as many times as you want.

For now, you cannot create campaigns. This will be done directly from the ingame menus. You will choose the location you want for your ad, and create your campaign directly from here! This is not available for now, but will be soon (a matter of days).

In the meantime, you can already help us prepare the release. You can start preparing your ads so we can moderate them. When we release the ingame billboards you will be able to advertise right away without waiting for the validation process. This will also help us fix any bug you can find and get some early feedback.

To do that, just go to the maniapub Manialink, click on Ads > Create an Ad.

If you have any issue, or just want to give your feedback, don't hesitate to create a topic in this very forum!

Have fun

ManiaPub is bad business. It only makes rich players richer. I hope it can switched completely off.

It actually had the opposite effect in TMF.

Before maniapub, everybody was visiting the first links of "manialink:home" so a few players were very rich, and there was basically nothing a player could do to change that. ManiaPub gave the players the possibility to start from little and progressively earn more money.

So indeed, rich players become richer, but it also allows pretty much anyone to become rich: in the end, the coppers spent are better distributed among the players.

Because we're talking about virtual currency and not real money, you have to understand it that way: maniapub stimulates the economy, hence maniapub stimulate what the community is creating.

Now, I'm not saying it was perfect. As I said in another topic, ManiaPub is also a "live experiment" and we try to improve the system with new releases (to make a analogy, compare the first version of ManiaHome in TMF with ManiaHome as it is today in Maniaplanet).

It looks good and everything. Even useful for those who can afford it/bother using it. But ads in the car selection (not that I visit it often)? You can't be serious. God knows where else you'll put them. A random pop-up during a single player race? Ads are ads and I don't like them; regardless of the content being advertised or where they're appearing. :?

I don't care if it's a service like Google ads which generates currency (planets) based on clicks or views (not sure how it works). You don't seem to realise that planets have no purpose; they're a collectible. For me at least. You haven't actually offered me (possibly us) anything worth spending planets on (excluding ranked servers, which I don't host). Sure, there's content available through Manialinks; e.g skins, content packs etc. I don't visit Manialinks often or purchase content. One reason why, is the fact that the rendering engine used is painfully slow. Maybe ManiaPlanet 2.0 will change all that.

I do support ads on community websites though. :)

Sorry about the rant! (kinda off topic) :P But I'm with xis and Electron. ;)

As I said, that was just an example. We don't eaxtcly know yet where we're going to put them all.

The real purpose of the Planets (same for the Coppers), is to be a tool to stimulate content creation.

Don't you think that's the main issue? That people dislike it because it is called "ads"? In TMF, I loved ManiaPub because everytime I launched my game, I would discover new stuff created by the players. Aren't you excited by that discovery? Don't yout think it's cool that new players who are not following the forums and who don't know the community too well can discover what the creators are up to, without having to actually search for it?

Thoses are not rethorical questions, I'm actually intersted in your opinion.

Fair enough. *No pop-ups* ;)

I guess it appears to be working then. Not for me though. :roflol:

People dislike ads because they can be annoying, unappealing and ugly. Sometimes all of those at the same time. Not because they're called 'ads'. Slap a different name on it all you want; ads are ads. However, because ManiaPub is controlled, players won't be shown unappealing content. ;)

After 4 years of playing TM ... not really. New discoveries in a game I've been playing for that long don't really draw my attention much like they use too. The honeymoon period is over for me. :P

Sure. It's more than cool, it's fantastic. :) But as a long-time fan and player of TM (much like many other players), I know where and how to find content. I guess being told/shown where I can discover something new seems moot to me.

I have seen some problems with ManiaPub on TMF and it's not possible to change this I think, it's the problem of ads generally.

We can make ads for each regions, country or world, it's good but we see quickly all the time the same ads on world. People pay the maximum of coppers and we can't take the place. If it's a team with 20 players, they can have enough coppers for pay each day.

Now on ManiaPlanet, it's more easy to have planets, they can make the same and for have enough planets, they can play all the time on their servers...

And an other problem and it's a big problem I think, we have seen a manialink on TMF on world for a fake lottery. He has changed the manialink after the validation and he earned coppers, I don't know how much but I think many.

Actually I use ManiaPub because I need to use for have some visit on my manialink.

I prefer have a "google" like directly in the game where players can add their manialink quickly and free or automatically but with a validation maybe or moderators. We add some tags for research for example in the playerpage for example.

And if it's made good, all players would be equal as in the game; a new designer or an old would be equal and not disadvantaged because someone play since more longer.
