3D Mode for Trackmania?

Post by RLP »

Will the game officially support nVidia 3D-Vision or any other 3D-technology?

With "officially" I mean that if it's proved to work, because 3D-Vision works with TMUF, but not as great as it could be.
I know that AC Brotherhood for example supports 3D, I have hope that it will be implemented in TM2 as well, because for both games Ubisoft is the publisher :)
(By the way with 3D-Vision I don't mean the red/cyan glasses^^)

I know a lot of you are seeing 3D as a gimmick, but if it's well made it's at least a good gimmick and more and more developers support it in their future games.
I just would like to know it, if nobody knows or Nadeo is to busy to answer we can at least have a discussion about this topic^^

Okay, then here is again what i wrote before :p Will maybe add more stuff, this evening =)
tcq wrote:Okay =) Didn't meant to break this question down, this was just the "standardised" answer, which fits in most of the cases (where the people just post without reading stuff). I for myself don't care much about the 3D settings. Let's make first a working game without bugs and so. Later on, gimmicks like this can be added (but why not using the TMU3D technology, because this is a very easy one and affordable for most of the players). And the point affordable is, what is the main power behind nadeos idea i think. Because with maniaplanet, a whole mass of new players should be won (additional to all of the old gamers, which will probably buy it). So maybe they add the old 3D mode and maybe extend it later on.
But don't forget, that a few 3D capable monitors are now on the way or already released. So maybe this will be an even easier way to promote 3D technology (eventhough they are more expensive, maybe they will be selling better than nVidia 3D-Vision).

So is this the 3D mode gonna be compatible with standard laptops? (if implemented) Or is it going to require new hardware, like a 3D-capable monitor? If it's the latter, can you also implement the red-blue 3D? Since it's hella easier to buy a $5 pair of red-blue glasses than to buy a $500 3D-compatible computer.

The previous TrackMania game had a native stereo-3D engine that looks gorgeous on supported displays.
The Nvidia API did not provide the tools to just forward the finished pictures to 3D Vision displays at the time the game was initially released.

This Nvidia API has been updated last year, and 2 games already use it (Avatar and Crysis 2). There is no reason for Nadeo not to use it. You can rest assured TM2 will support 3D Vision output directly, however how much of the game is implemented remains to be announced.
The native mode in the previous Trackmania game only really worked in game and in the replay editor : the map editor and skin editor did not work. We do not know if Nadeo will extend the 3D mode to the entire game and menus or not.

TMUF had a 3d menu, even if it was for the built in 3d glasses mode.I haven't seen the main menu for trackmania 2 but it might be in 3d.

I hope it will be rendered in 3D. It looks like it, but could also be a Bink video file ...
But of course there are more important things at the moment^^
