[B3.1] Can't turn shadows off

Re: [B3.1] Can't turn shadows off
i don't care about esport or bad computers, it's still a bug because it did work till last patch. So turn it back and shadows are fine.

ofc it's first... but c'mon, laptop from 2010, and it can't handle new TM properly. what about PCs from 2008-2009?2222222 wrote:Maybe it have a bad graphic card that can be upgraded. Maybe the operative system is in bad shape and need to be reloaded. Probably you can disable unnecessary services. Maybe uninstall security software or other software that runs in the background? Maybe some other setting than shading can be lowered. For example playing in a lower resolution.Omnixor wrote:ok, I bought a not-so-bad laptop in 2010. it gives me ~25fps in all maniaplanet games. do you suggest me to buy a new one?

With a midpriced GPU they can probably play at fairly high settings. The CPU-requirent of trackmania 2 on lower settings were low enough to make trackmania work well on my 8-year old computer. Don't know how old/cheap GPU you can have, but I believe that if trackmania 2 isn't playable even on the lowest settings, then it's probably not a hardware problem.Omnixor wrote:from 2008-2009?

if you're interested - Asus K52JC (Geforce 310M).

That's not the worst computer ever. I managed to get 60+ fps on even a bit slower machine. Though I still wasn't able to enable vsync on it because frame rate dips under 60 pretty often, which causing frame drops with enabled vsync, especially since it's an NVIDIA GPU-based system. But that's not the case.Omnixor wrote:if you're interested - Asus K52JC (Geforce 310M).
What settings are you running at?
Re: [B3.1] Can't turn shadows off
Some quick search shows that it should be comparable to my old card hd6450. I havn't tried the new staduim with it, but I played canyon with maybe 40 fps and not the lowest settings. I think I were only playing the 3-day free demo then.
I should also say that I used maximum overclocking for that card, and use it for my new card.

Re: [B3.1] Can't turn shadows off
I've already told you that, even though it has nothing to do with fairness, there is a huge difference in game's looks on certain settings, including black levels, contrast and lighting.2222222 wrote:It would be an unfair edge if a player could get rid of dark areas of the tracks. If trackmania should be an e-sport game then everyone need to have the same dark areas.
More flexible settings will just make the game even more popular, by allowing to run it on much slower computers, then it is now. And also it will make the game little bit less annoying for uber-pro e-sport players, like frostBeule, Tamarillo, JWH, for example, which are used to play with ugliest as possible graphics over all these years.
To prove my words, I spend some time yesterday, to show you the difference.

my settings:
http://puu.sh/2kmum
http://puu.sh/2kmut
http://puu.sh/2kmuz
when staying at the start of A01, I have ~28fps on 1280*720 resolution (fullscreen) and ~44fps on 800*450 (window mode).
could my win7 x86 be the reason? tho I don't think there's not enough ram for TM²...

Omnixor, we should continue discussion of your problem somewhere else. I'll send you a pm within a hour from this moment.
Re: [B3.1] Can't turn shadows off
I think the biggest reason for your problems is that you have Cpu/Gpu syncro set to Immediate. For me Immediate has always been the slowest setting. Possibly no sync is best for you.Omnixor wrote:my settings:

Also I suggest try to lower quality of cars, car particles and anisotropic filtering. Lowering the texture quality even more would probably be too ugly, but anyway a possibility to get a higher framerate. You can also play in fullscreen with a lower resolution.
That the framerate increases with lower resolution suggests that you are mostly limited by your graphics card. In my old computer I was bottlenecked by my CPU and I had the same framerate even on the lowest resolution. Maybe it's possible for that reason to increase som CPU-dependent settings, like geometric details.
