It feels like TM is being used as a stepping stone to kick off other genres, with MP acting like some sort of games client similar to Steam. If the resources are spread too thinly how can TM2 be fully supported and the faults and failures sorted out? Are Nadeo/Ubi just going to move on and leave the community?
From what I can gather, and please correct me if I'm wrong, each environment for each 'game' (TM,SM & QM) can be bought and played completely separately from any of the others and that apart from being able to use MP they have nothing else in common ...... Or can they interact with each other?
Yes, the game is just starting .... but please finish the game before moving onto something else.
Extremely good points you raise here. I would like the answers too, although I doubt we will get all the answers.
This is an extremely good point since I believe it is exactly what makes us think different of the strategy.
I am pretty sure that ShootMania will bring much more players for TrackMania. A racing game average time of play is normally shorter than a FPS for many reasons. With ShootMania, there will be a lot of regular players around that will surely enjoy to play TrackMania on a regular basis, but on smaller amount of playtime. It will promote a lot TrackMania as well since people that are interested into FPS will be closer to the information of TrackMania while they are looking at ShootMania and the various quality: 2.0, fun, eSport, machinima, simple etc.
Look at the most played games on Steam, for exemple, and you shall observe that the number of people racing versus shooting is quite rare. So, even if we did strong innovation for TrackMania, it was difficult to talk about them to players that are more looking toward FPS.
I have showed ShootMania to many people now, and they are often surprised of all the power behind the racing game, and the unbelievable creative community. This surprise may be something that will seize many gamers and they will more easily move to TrackMania once they are aware of this.
It is like a console, it is more difficult with only one big title, especially if it is not in the top popular gendra. We need more diversity of gameplay in order to enable a bigger, stronger and longer term community to exist.
Meanwhile, Maniaplanet 2.0 will also bring interesting stuff for TrackMania.
So, I think it is going to be party time
