Because there is a community in Tm + sm. bigger than most of the games.
That WAS true. Now it's not true. Just be realistic.
According to the website it has 10K daily players ( but dont forget thats for 4-5games )
That's actually very low. Maniaplanet lost its fame.
I think the community already did soooooo much to keep it alive, but now we need the devs to polish this game into a premium bugfree product with a personality. That's not something we, the community, can do.
Yeah, we can help with that. Visually.
Shootmania is currently gaining a lot of momentum video-wise. Ze-Rax and his CPLAY videos for instance. These are wonderfully made and people who want to know about the game will find their gold from there.
How can we act? Easy: These CPLAY tournaments or other community tournaments and competitions (Smurfscup Royal, SiegeCup, Combo, several others, ...) can help building up alot of momentum inside the playerbase. The more people know about it, the more people will play it. Frostbeule's Weekly Race is the most successful of all these events; it's so simple. Join and play for the crown. Eventually you win something.
Simplicity might be the key. I see TM and SM as simple games with more complex mechanics you are able to learn and master. "Easy to play, hard to master." A great slogan imho. This shall also be used for future advertisements from Nadeo's side. Nadeo could support those who have aspirations for Shootmania/Trackmania being at a LAN nearby. All this need to be supported from the top before it can stand on its own shoes, so you are definetly not wrong.
In my opinion, the biggest "disaster" (sounds harsher than it might be) is the lack of accessibility in North America. How often people from NA joined my private combo servers to have a nice play with us and leaving, knowing that they can only play this game like once in 2 months online. Imo it is not too late to support NA activities. I also want to mention that people from NA can actually play on EU servers with barely noticable lags, as long it isn't Elite. Combo has been proven to be very playable across the world (I hosted a private server on my 50k internet, people from Australia, Scotland and US (Washington) joined and played with a really acceptable snapshot.
